As part of our Summer Program at Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha, our kindergarten students enjoyed an exciting inquiry-based learning day with the theme “Let’s Go to the Beach!”. This play-based activity was designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and integrate hands-on learning in a joyful environment.
ビヨンディア・インターナショナルスクール柏の葉のサマープログラムの一環として、幼稚園クラスでは 「ビーチへ行こう！」 をテーマにした、楽しく探究心を育む学習活動を行いました。
この遊びを中心としたアクティビティは、子どもたちの好奇心を刺激し、創造力を育み、実際に手を使いながら学ぶ体験を通して、喜びのある学びを提供しました。
Dancing, Discussions, and Imagination/ ダンス・ディスカッション・想像の旅
We began the session with the lively song “Let’s Go to the Beach”, setting the mood for our sunny indoor adventure. The children discussed what kind of weather is best for going to the beach—rainy days got a big “No!”, sunny days were a definite “Yes!”, and snowy days were also a “No!”. These conversations encouraged critical thinking and helped develop language skills as children expressed their ideas.
まずは「Let’s Go to the Beach」の元気な曲に合わせてダンスをし、明るく楽しい室内のビーチ体験が始まりました。「ビーチに行くのにぴったりなお天気は？」という質問に、子どもたちは雨の日は「イヤ！」、晴れの日は「いいね！」、雪の日は「イヤ！」と元気に答えてくれました。このやりとりを通して、批判的思考や言語表現力が自然に育まれました。
Exploring Beach Activities/ ビーチでできることを探ろう
Through group discussion, we explored fun beach activities: グループディスカッションで、ビーチでできる楽しい活動をたくさん見つけました。

When Sora-sensei brought a real kite into the classroom, the excitement in the air was contagious. 授業中にそら先生が本物の凧を持ってきてくれたときには、教室中が大きな歓声に包まれました。
Sensory Play with “Fake Sand”/ フェイクサンドで感覚遊び
To make the experience more interactive, we introduced sensory play with fake sand. The children worked in teams to find hidden seashells and flags buried in the sand. After the treasure hunt, they used the sand to create castles, onigiri, shapes, and numbers—combining sensory learning with early literacy and numeracy.
よりインタラクティブな体験にするため、フェイクサンド（人工の砂）を使った感覚遊びを行いました。
チームに分かれて、砂の中に隠れた貝殻や旗を探す「宝探しゲーム」に挑戦。その後は砂を使ってお城やおにぎり、さまざまな形や数字を作り、感覚学習と初期の読み書き・数概念を結びつけました。
Creative Arts & Crafts/ アート＆クラフトの時間
Next, the children decorated their own paper sandcastles with seashell cutouts and added vibrant colors using crayons. This activity enhanced fine motor skills and encouraged artistic expression.
次は、紙で作った砂のお城に貝殻のカットアウトを貼り、クレヨンで色をつけて自由に飾り付けました。
このアクティビティは微細運動能力を高め、芸術的表現を促す時間になりました。
Ice Cream Math Activity/ アイスクリームの算数アクティビティ
Inspired by the song, we talked about everyone’s favorite ice cream flavors—strawberry, chocolate, and matcha were the top choices. Then came a math challenge: matching ice cream cone cutouts with numbers to scoops that had the same number of sprinkles. This fun game developed counting skills and number recognition.
歌の中に登場するアイスクリームから発展し、みんなの好きな味について話しました。人気の味はストロベリー、チョコレート、抹茶。その後は算数チャレンジとして、アイスクリームコーンのカードに書かれた数字と、同じ数のスプリンクルが描かれたアイスクリームをマッチさせる活動をしました。楽しみながら数える力や数字認識を育てることができました。
Ending on a Sweet Note/ 甘いフィナーレ
To wrap up our beach adventure, each child created their own ice cream cone art featuring their favorite flavors. By the end of the day, the classroom was filled with laughter, creativity, and the joy of learning through play.
最後は、自分の好きな味のアイスクリームを自由にデザインするクラフトを行い、この日のビーチ体験を締めくくりました。教室は一日中、笑顔と創造力、そして学びの喜びでいっぱいでした。

This theme was perfect for blending IB PYP inquiry, play-based learning, and summer-themed kindergarten activities. It encouraged students to ask questions, express ideas, work in groups, and learn through hands-on exploration—all while having fun.
このテーマは、PYPの探究型学習、遊びを中心とした学び、そして夏らしい幼児向け活動を融合させるのにぴったりでした。子どもたちは質問し、意見を述べ、協力しながら、実際に手を使って探究する楽しさを味わいました。
