The Kinder classes came together and had an exciting lesson which linked two of their IB themes for the year; How the World Works and How We Express Ourselves. The class began with them all being introduced to the four seasons. They were able to name them all by themselves before the teachers were even able to ask. After that, they were shown lots of different pieces of art which depicted a different season each.

幼児クラスでは、今年度のIBテーマである「この地球のしくみ（How the World Works）」と「私たちはどのように自分を表現するのか（How We Express Ourselves）」をつなげた、わくわくするレッスンが行われました。

まず最初に、子どもたちは四季について紹介されました。すると、先生が質問をする前に、自分たちだけで四季の名前を言い当てることができました。

その後、それぞれの季節を表現したさまざまなアート作品を見せてもらいました。

To keep in theme with IB’s international approach to education, the class was shown both Japanese ukiyo-e prints and foreign paintings from Europe. We went from season to season and the class was asked to point out what colours they saw for each. They pointed out the light greens and pinks seen in the spring pieces, the bright yellows, sky blues, and reds of summer, the browns, oranges, and deep reds of the autumn art, and the white, ice blues, and dark blues of the winter prints. It was amazing to see them really study the art in front of them and come to their own answers without anyone else influencing them. Without prompts, they also pointed out the different objects that each of the seasons come with like snow in the winter and the cherry blossoms in the spring ukiyo-e prints.

IBの国際的な教育アプローチに沿って、クラスでは日本の浮世絵だけでなく、ヨーロッパの絵画など海外の作品も紹介されました。季節ごとに作品を見ながら、子どもたちは「どんな色が見えるかな？」と尋ねられました。

春の作品では淡い緑やピンク、夏の作品では明るい黄色や空色、赤、秋のアートでは茶色やオレンジ、深い赤、冬の作品では白や氷のような青、濃い青を見つけていました。目の前の作品をじっくり観察し、誰にも影響されず自分の言葉で答えていく姿はとても印象的でした。

さらに、先生からのヒントがなくても、冬の雪や春の桜など、季節ごとに表れるさまざまなものに気づき、自然と指摘してくれました。

そして、いよいよレッスンのメインに入りました。子どもたちはクレヨンとスケッチブックを手に取り、自分が選んだ季節にふさわしいと思う色を使って「季節のアート」を描きました。

雪だるまやサンタクロース、ジャック・オー・ランタンやオレンジ色の葉の木、鮮やかな花々や太陽の光にあふれた風景など……子どもたちは大好きな季節を思い浮かべながら、次々とアイデアを絵に表現していきました。

出来上がった作品はどれも本当に素晴らしく、子どもたちは自分の作品をとても誇らしそうに見せていました。

These lessons really help the class to take a good look at things and come to their own conclusions about the world they see around them.

こうしたレッスンを通して、子どもたちは身の回りの世界をじっくりと観察し、自分なりの考えや気づきを持つことができています。
