Introduction

Last month, we continued our country study on France with the support of one of our parents. This inquiry was led by a parent from France, which gave the children a real and meaningful learning experience. The children learned about France by asking questions, sharing their ideas, and taking part in hands-on activities.

先月、保護者の方のご協力のもと、フランスのカントリースタディを行いました。今回はフランス出身の保護者の方が中心となり、子どもたちにとって本物で意味のある学びの時間となりました。子どもたちは質問をしたり、自分の考えを伝えたりしながら、体験を通してフランスについて楽しく学びました

Finding France on the World Map/ 世界地図でフランスを見つけよう

The children first located France on the world map and discussed how we could travel there from Japan. Ideas such as traveling by airplane or boat were shared. To make the experience meaningful, each child received a pretend airplane ticket and joined an imaginary journey to France.

まず、世界地図を使ってフランスの場所を探しました。日本からフランスへはどのように行けるのかを話し合い、飛行機や船で行けるという意見が出ました。学びをより身近なものにするため、子どもたちは一人ひとり飛行機のチケットをもらい、フランスへの空の旅ごっこを楽しみました。

Exploring Castles in France/ フランスのお城を探究する

We compared castles in Japan with castles in France. Through this comparison, the children learned that kings, queens, and knights lived in French castles long ago. A pair “seek and find” activity encouraged careful observation, communication, and teamwork.

次に、日本のお城とフランスのお城を比べました。この比較を通して、昔のフランスのお城には王さま、女王さま、騎士が住んでいたことを学びました。ペアで行った「Seek and Find」の活動では、よく観察する力やコミュニケーション力、協力する力を育みました。

Churches, Cathedrals, and Stained Glass/ 教会・大聖堂とステンドグラス

The children then explored churches and cathedrals in France and noticed how they are different from temples and shrines in Japan. They also learned about stained glass (vitraux) and how it was used to tell stories to people who could not read in the past.

続いて、フランスの教会や大聖堂について学び、日本の寺や神社との違いに気づきました。また、ステンドグラス（ヴィトロー）について知り、昔は文字が読めなかった人たちに物語を伝えるために使われていたことを学びました。

Creative Learning Through Art/ アートを通した創造的な学び

To conclude, the children created their own stained-glass artwork. This activity supported creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression while deepening their understanding of French culture.

最後に、ステンドグラスをイメージした工作活動を行いました。この活動を通して、創造力や指先の発達、自己表現を育みながら、フランスの文化への理解を深めることができました。

Through this inquiry into France, the children enjoyed learning about a new country in a fun and meaningful way. By exploring maps, culture, and hands-on activities, they became more curious, confident, and open to learning about the world. This experience helped the children build a better understanding of different cultures and encouraged a love for learning beyond the classroom.

今回のフランスについての探究活動を通して、子どもたちは新しい国について楽しく学ぶことができました。地図や文化、体験活動を通して、世界への興味や自信が育ち、さまざまな国や文化に目を向けるきっかけとなりました。この経験は、教室の外の世界へと学びを広げる大切な一歩となりました。
