At Beyondia International School Kashiwanoha, inquiry-based learning is at the heart of everything we do. Recently, our students explored the IB Learner Profile trait Risk-Takers through a hands-on, exciting challenge at the traversing wall.
ビヨンディア・インターナショナルスクール柏の葉では、探究型学習がすべての教育活動の中心にあります。最近、子どもたちはIBの学習者像の一つである「リスクテイカー（挑戦する人）」の姿を、トラバーシングウォールでの実践的でワクワクする体験を通して探究しました。
During playtime, children were encouraged to climb using specially placed grips along the wall. What seemed like just a fun activity became a meaningful learning experience—helping children develop balance, confidence, and body awareness.
遊びの時間には、壁に設置されたグリップを使って登ることに挑戦しました。一見ただの楽しい遊びのように見えますが、実はバランス感覚、自信、身体認識を育む貴重な学びの時間となりました。そして何よりも、子どもたちが「安全なリスク」に挑戦し、自分のコンフォートゾーン（安心できる範囲）を超える機会となったのです。
As the children climbed, teachers guided them to reflect on what it means to try something new—even when it feels a little scary or uncertain. This real-world experience brought the concept of risk-taking to life and helped our learners understand that personal growth often begins with courage.
登っている最中、先生たちは子どもたちに「新しいことに挑戦するとはどういうことか」を振り返るよう促しました。少し怖かったり、不安だったりすることでもやってみる勇気が、成長につながるということを、子どもたちは実体験から学ぶことができました。
The learning didn’t stop there. Back in the classroom, children gathered in groups to review photos from their climbing adventure. These visual prompts sparked thoughtful discussions around what it means to be a risk-taker.
学びは教室でも続きました。子どもたちはグループになって、活動中の写真を見ながら、リスクテイカーとはどういう人かについて話し合いました。
Some of their responses included powerful words like “try first” and “strong,” showing not only their grasp of the learner profile concept but also their growing ability to express ideas clearly. These reflections nurtured both language skills and important social-emotional growth, such as building confidence and resilience.
「まずやってみる」「強い」といった子どもたちの言葉からは、リスクテイカーという学習者像に対する理解が深まっていること、そして自分の考えを言葉で表現する力が育っていることが伝わってきました。こうした振り返りを通して、語彙力だけでなく、自信やレジリエンス（困難を乗り越える力）といった社会性・情緒面の成長も促されています。
At Beyondia, we believe that encouraging children to be risk-takers prepares them to become lifelong learners—individuals who are unafraid to try, fail, and try again.
And that’s exactly what we saw: young learners boldly stepping forward, supporting one another, and discovering that taking risks leads to growth.
ビヨンディアでは、子どもたちがリスクを恐れずに挑戦する姿勢を育むことが、生涯にわたって学び続ける力の基礎になると考えています。失敗を恐れず、何度でも挑戦しようとする心――それこそが、未来を切り開く力です。
今回の活動でも、子どもたちはお互いを励まし合いながら勇気を持って一歩踏み出し、「リスクを取ることは成長につながる」ということを実感しました。
