Last December, we had the opportunity to visit OWIS (One World International School) Tsukuba and take part in a school tour. OWIS Tsukuba is a newly opened international school that launched in the summer of 2025. With Beyondia’s children in mind and their learning journey beyond graduation, we wanted to see the campus atmosphere and the learning environment firsthand. Once we arrived, we found a calm, nature-rich setting that made us feel excited to see how the school will continue to grow.

昨年12月、OWIS（One World International School）つくば校を訪問し、スクール見学の機会をいただきました。OWISつくば校は、2025年夏に開校した新しいインターナショナルスクールです。Beyondiaの子どもたちの卒園後も見据えながら、キャンパスの雰囲気や学びの様子を拝見しました。実際に足を運んでみると、自然に囲まれた穏やかな環境が広がっており、これからの学校の成長が楽しみになる空気がありました。

One of the strongest impressions was the school’s educational direction, grounded in the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy. Their commitment to inquiry-based learning, student agency, and holistic development was evident throughout the visit, and it was clear they are carefully nurturing each child’s desire to learn. OWIS Tsukuba is currently in the preparation phase toward becoming an IB authorized school. As Beyondia is also working toward IB authorization, we deeply resonated with and were inspired by the school’s mindset and approach to supporting children’s learning. In addition, their support programs for second-language learners are well developed, making the school feel welcoming and accessible even for families who may feel a little anxious about English at the start.

まず印象に残ったのは、国際バカロレア（IB）の考え方を軸にした教育の方向性です。探究的な学びや子ども主体の学習、全人的な成長を大切にする姿勢が随所に感じられ、子どもたち一人ひとりの「学びたい」という気持ちを丁寧に育てていこうとしていることが伝わってきました。OWISつくば校は現在、国際バカロレア認定校に向けた準備段階にあり、私たちBeyondiaも同様にIB認定を目指して準備を進めている立場として、実際にお話を伺う中で、子どもたちの学びを支えるための考え方や姿勢に大きな共感と感銘を受けました。また、第二言語としての英語をサポートするためのプログラムも手厚く整えられており、英語に少し不安を感じるご家庭にとっても、安心してスタートできるスクールだという印象を受けました。

The campus is based in a former Japanese elementary school building, and renovations are continuing step by step. The school has thoughtfully preserved the building’s original charm, creating a warm and slightly nostalgic atmosphere. At the same time, the campus also feels fresh and modern, with an international-school learning environment beautifully integrated into the existing structure. The facilities are colorful and welcoming, and class sizes appear relatively small, making it possible for teachers and children to build close relationships.

キャンパスは、日本の小学校の校舎を活用した建物をベースとしており、現在も段階的にリノベーションが進められています。建物が持つ本来の魅力を大切に残している点が印象的で、どこか懐かしく、温かみのある雰囲気がありました。一方で、インターナショナルスクールとしての現代的な学びの空気も自然に取り入れられており、日本の学校らしさと新しさが心地よく融合した空間となっています。施設内はカラフルで安心感があり、クラスサイズも比較的小さく、先生方と子どもたちが丁寧に関わっていける環境が整えられているように感じました。

Located away from the noise of the city, the school is set in a quiet environment surrounded by nature. The surroundings themselves seem to gently support children’s inquiry and everyday learning. Students can also commute by school bus from Tsukuba Station on the Tsukuba Express line, which helps balance a calm learning environment with practical daily access.

立地は、都会の喧騒から離れた静かな環境にあり、自然を身近に感じながらのびのびと学べる場所です。周囲の環境そのものが、子どもたちの探究や日常の学びを穏やかに支えてくれるように感じられました。また、つくばエクスプレス「つくば駅」からはスクールバスで通学が可能となっており、落ち着いた学習環境と通いやすさの両立が考えられている点も魅力の一つです。

OWIS is a global network of international schools, and the Tsukuba campus is operated as part of this group (for details, please refer to the official OWIS website). The school currently accepts children from the age of three, and we understand that there are plans to expand into grade 12 school in the future. The long-term vision for developing the school was evident throughout our visit, and we look forward to seeing how the learning environment will continue to grow over time.

OWISは世界各地にキャンパスを持つインターナショナルスクールグループであり、つくば校もその一員として運営されています（詳細はOWIS公式サイトをご参照ください）。現在は3歳児からの受け入れを行っており、将来的には高校までの一貫校としての展開が計画されているそうです。長期的な視点で学校を育てていこうとする姿勢が随所に感じられ、今後どのように学びの環境が広がっていくのか、とても楽しみに感じました。
