On Saturday, we had our Sports Day for 2024. It was a roaring success and just wonderful seeing everyone give it their all.
The whole hall was filled with anticipation from the moment the kids entered with their families. We had mommies and daddies, grandmas and grandpas, brothers and sisters, even some aunts and uncles turning up to support the young athletes. The kids were so excited to show off all they could do. We began with a whole group exercise. Kids, teachers, and families all gathered around and danced along to the show to get the blood pumping and the energy levels up. We then moved on to the main events.
The Nursery/Pre classes danced their socks off to their respective songs; Baby Shark and Move before they swapped their dancing shoes for a pair of runners. They gave it their all to finish the race as well as they could. It was great seeing them try so hard.
While the Nursery/pre kids were getting ready to race, the Kinder class had their Tug-of-War event. It consisted of three rounds: one with just the kids, one with kids and teachers, and one with kids and their families. It was a hard fought battle but one team came out on top. After that, their next events were the dances. K1 shook their hips to Aloha, e komo mai and K2 and K3 pulled in all the fish they could during the Soren Bushi dance. It was amazing how well they did and they all looked incredible in their costumes.
At the end, we had our last event; The Relay. The Kinder class, with the help of a member of their families, had to complete a series of tasks quickly before tagging in one of their teammates. They had to walk across a balance bar, run with an egg on a spoon, and run in a large pair of pants with a family member as fast as possible. It was a close race but one team managed to come out on top.
We had a medal ceremony to congratulate all of our competitors before sending them off to spend the rest of the day with the families. We hope that everyone had a great time and we, the teachers, are going to work our best to make 2025 bigger and better than this year was.
