At our school, we had a lot of fun getting ready for Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi), a special day in Japan to celebrate children and wish them happiness and good health.
私たちの園では、日本の特別な行事「こどもの日」をお祝いするために、たくさんの楽しい活動をしました。こどもの日は、子どもたちの健康と幸せを願う日です。
We started by learning about the important things we see on Children’s Day, like the colorful carp streamers (koinobori), samurai helmets (kabuto), sweet rice dumplings (chimaki), rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves (kashiwa-mochi), and iris flowers. The children were excited to share what they knew and to learn new things.
まず、こいのぼり、兜、ちまき、柏餅、菖蒲など、こどもの日に欠かせないものをみんなで学びました。子どもたちは知っていることを元気に話したり、新しいことを学んだりして、とても楽しんでいました。
Each class worked on fun craft projects: 各クラスでは、楽しい製作活動に取り組みました：
K1 (youngest kids) used the decalcomania technique to make pretty patterns for their carp streamers. They were amazed at how the colors mixed and made new shapes.
K1（年少さん）は、デカルコマニー技法を使って、きれいな模様のこいのぼりを作りました。色が混ざってできる模様に「わあ！すごい！」と大喜びでした。
K2 (middle group) used resist painting to decorate their own carp streamers, showing their own ideas with bright colors or careful designs.
K2（年中さん） は、はじき絵技法を使って、自分だけのこいのぼりをデザインしました。ダイナミックな模様を作る子もいれば、丁寧に色を重ねる子もいて、それぞれの個性が光っていました。
K3 (oldest kids) planned how to decorate their samurai helmets. They made detailed drawings and thought carefully about each part of their design.
K3（年長さん） は、兜の飾りつけを考えました。一つひとつの部分を丁寧にデザインし、細かいイラストで表現する姿に成長を感じました。
After the crafts, the kids also enjoyed drawing and clay play. They made small carp streamers, rice dumplings, and rice cakes with clay, having fun while learning more about the holiday.
製作の後は、お絵かきや粘土遊びの時間です。こいのぼりやちまき、柏餅を粘土で作り、季節の行事を楽しみました。
The children are very proud of their work and can’t wait to show their families. We are happy to celebrate Children’s Day together, not only by learning about traditions but also by watching the children grow and share their creativity.
子どもたちは自分たちの作品をとても誇りに思っていて、「早くパパとママに見せたいな！」と完成を楽しみにしています。こどもの日をみんなで楽しく学び、お祝いしながら、子どもたちの成長と創造力を感じることができました。
