Today, the K2/K3 class had Open School, and it was a fun and exciting experience! The children played and learned with rocks, which has become a recent interest for them. They enjoy collecting rocks whenever we go to the park, and today we connected this curiosity to our theme “How We Express Ourselves.”
本日、K2/K3クラスはオープンスクールを開催し、とても楽しく刺激的な時間を過ごしました！子どもたちは岩を使って遊びながら学びました。最近、子どもたちは岩にとても興味を持っており、公園に行くたびに岩を集めるのが大好きです。今日はこの好奇心をテーマ「私たちはどのように自分を表現するか」に結びつけました。
Exploring Famous Landmarks/ 有名なランドマークの探究
The session began with photos of famous landmarks made of rocks, such as Mount Rushmore, the Pyramids, the Easter Island Heads, Petra, Sigiriya, Newgrange, and Stonehenge. The children engaged in a thoughtful discussion, answering questions like “Where is it? Is it in Japan, Sri Lanka, or Ireland?”
セッションは、岩でできた有名なランドマークの写真を見せることから始まりました。例えば、マウントラシュモア、ピラミッド、イースター島のモアイ像、ペトラ、シギリヤ、ニューグレンジ、ストーンヘンジなどです。子どもたちは「これはどこにあるの？日本？スリランカ？それともアイルランド？」などの質問に答えながら、熱心に話し合いました。
One K3 student recognized Stonehenge and said, “It’s in England.” Another K2 student commented that Petra in Jordan looks very old. Most of the children quickly identified the Pyramids, and together we observed that all these landmarks are made of rocks.
K3の子どもはストーンヘンジを認識し、「イギリスにあるよ！」と言いました。K2の子どもは「ヨルダンのペトラはとても古そう」とコメントしました。ほとんどの子どもはすぐにピラミッドを識別し、これらのランドマークがすべて岩でできていることに気付きました。
Hands-On Rock Exploration/ 岩の実際の探究
Next, we explored real rocks and revisited our morning vocabulary by touching and describing them, discussing which rocks were rough or smooth. This hands-on experience helped reinforce the descriptive words they learned earlier.
次に、実際の岩を触りながら、午前中に学んだ語彙を復習しました。どの岩がざらざらかなめらかかを確認しながら観察しました。この体験により、子どもたちは学んだ形容詞を実際に使って理解を深めることができました。
Interactive Games with Rocks/ 岩を使ったゲーム
We then played a game where parents also participated. Each child chose a rock, and we used criteria such as “Who has the biggest rock?” or “Who has the flattest rock?” The children compared their rocks with their partners and raised their hands when they had the correct match.
その後、保護者も参加してのゲームを行いました。子どもたちはそれぞれ岩を選び、「一番大きい岩はどれ？」「一番平らな岩はどれ？」といった基準でペアと比較しました。条件に合った岩を持っている子どもは手を挙げ、みんな楽しみながら学びました。
After that, the class divided into two teams for a timed challenge:
その後、クラスは2チームに分かれ、時間内に以下の課題に挑戦しました：
- Line up the rocks from biggest to smallest /岩を大きい順から小さい順に並べる
- Build a rock tower together as a team/ チームで岩のタワーを作る
Arts and Crafts Activity/ アート＆クラフトの時間
Finally, the children enjoyed art and craft time, coloring and drawing on their rocks creatively. This allowed them to express themselves through art while reflecting on what they learned.
最後に、子どもたちはアート＆クラフトの時間を楽しみました。岩に色を塗ったり絵を描いたりしながら、学んだことを表現しました。この活動を通じて、自分を表現する力を育むことができました。
