Today, during our morning inquiry time, the K2 and K3 classes explored the interesting world of penguins in celebration of World Penguin Day.
今日は朝のインクワリータイムに、K2とK3の子どもたちが「ワールド・ペンギン・デー」をお祝いしながら、ペンギンの世界について楽しく学びました。
When I told the children that April 25th is a special day to learn about penguins, some of our K3 students asked, “Why today?” This led to a nice discussion. We talked about how there are other special days like Children’s Day and Mother’s Day, and that today is a day to learn more about penguins and why they are important.
「4月25日はペンギンの日なんだよ」と伝えると、K3の子どもたちが「どうして今日がペンギンの日なの？」と聞いてきました。そこから、こどもの日や母の日のように、今日はペンギンのことを学んだり、大切に思ったりする特別な日なんだとお話しました。
I then asked, “Where can we find penguins?” Some children stood up and proudly pointed to Antarctica on the world map. It was a great moment that showed how well they remembered what they had learned before.
「ペンギンはどこにいるかな？」と聞くと、何人かの子が立ち上がり、地図の南極を指さしてくれました。去年学んだことをしっかり覚えていて、とても素敵な瞬間でした
Next, we watched a short video about penguins to help us learn more. After that, we moved on to three fun penguin-themed activities:
その後、ペンギンについてのビデオを見て、もっと知識を深めました。ビデオのあとは、3つのペンギンをテーマにしたアクティビティを楽しみました。
- Color-by-number – Children colored penguins by matching colors to numbers. ぬりえ（色と数字） – 数字に合わせて色をぬる活動です。
- Maze-solving – A fun puzzle where the penguins had to find their way through an icy path. めいろ – ペンギンが氷の道を通ってゴールにたどりつくパズルです。
- Penguin craft – Children used shapes like circles, ovals, and triangles to make their own penguins. クラフト – まるやだえん、さんかくなどの形を使って、自分だけのペンギンを作りました。
It was a fun and meaningful day filled with learning, creativity, and excitement. We all enjoyed discovering more about these amazing animals.
今日はたくさんの学びと楽しさがつまった、すてきな一日になりました。子どもたちはペンギンのことを知ることで、もっと自然や動物に興味を持ってくれたようです。
